Great Value...They say pictures are worth a 1000 words and that is certainly true of this book by Verdiano Marzi and Fabienne Gambrelle.Unlike other books on mosaics, this one offers some of the best explanatory notes on process using traditional methods.The photographs are well composed and reinforce the simple text well. Found this book a little lacking in what I hoped to find. I'm close to an advanced mosaic artist and I found very little here that was new to me. It wasn't particularly helpful but could be somewhat useful for artists beyond the novice stage.
I only have this book in the French language version having bought it a few years ago in Paris. It gives an insight into the work of a particular professional mosaic artist; his methods, his inspiration, and some projects to attempt at home. The projects seem fairly advanced using indirect methods or mesh - things I find too tricky and the materials used - stone, smalti etc are expensive and difficult to cut. You might be able to adapt the ideas to direct method and use cheaper tesserae or it may spark off your own ideas but there are very few projects in the book and none of them are for beginners. Perhaps it would be easier to follow in English!
