Al is by far my favorite character in all of Dianne Harman's books--and I actually got really upset when I started reading and it was Al's funeral! That funeral scene was really well written and had me going for the tissue box! How happy I was that there was an amazing twist!However, there is a hit out on Al and he has to figure out who it is. He uses some of his old friends and with the help of his wife and her friends--off they go to Chicago. There really are a lot of twists and turns in this one and a lot of suspects!Will Al manage to find the guy after him so that he can go about his new life Mafia free?
There were a lot of characters in this installment! But, hey, it’s about Al and his mafia days. A lot was going on and even the reader got a bit jumpy a few times! It was good to see Al really did not want any part of his “old†life again, he wanted a quiet normal life with Cassie and friends. There were a few tense moments!
A story about Al, a former mob guy who left the mob to have a normal life and now there is a hit out on him, he can’t understand who would be doing this and he wants to find out.
I like Dee Dee , Jake , Al , and Cassie . They did a good job at figured out the mystery.
I hate calling any murder mystery "cozy" because murder is an inherently uncozy subject, but this book is a "clean" mystery, with no bad language or sex scenes. However it is even less cozy than most clean murder mystery books, with references to several gruesome murders that some of Al's previous associates had participated in, in some capacity. This was surprisingly tastefully done, compared to how the writers of hard core detective fiction would have done it, but I have a very graphic imagination, so the writer's tact in her descriptions did not help me much. Fortunately I am not terribly squeamish, so no problem. And no problem for anyone else who is not squeamish or who does not have a graphic imagination. But if you are squeamish AND have a graphic imagination AND don't like the results of that combination, the rest of the books so far probably are not a problem, but this one might be.Good story, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
I love this series, and this latest installment dose not disappoint. Al De Duca, ex mob tough guy with a heart of gold wants nothing more than to live a peaceful crime free life with his beloved bride Cassie. All seems well until Al finds out that there is a hit out on his life. Determined to get to the bottom of why someone wants to kill him and hopefully prevent it from happening, Al, Cassie, and their friends Jake and Dee Dee head to Chicago. They encounter quite a few shady characters, some of whom are downright simister. As they try to discover who put the hit out on Al, the case becomes more complicated and nerve wracking. This was a delightful, fast paced read with suspense, twists and turns, and even a few laugh out loud moments. And of course mouth watering recipes. I love Al's character, wise guy way of speaking and all! This was a thrill ride of a novel. Kudos to Mrs. HarmanðŸ˜ðŸ˜
Plenty going on in this hilarious installment with a Chicago background. The storyline and backstory fit together and the twists and turns were a hoot. Great Story.
I have read better from Diane, however, I am not into Mafia stuff. Will be looking for other things she writes.
