I read through the entire book, and while I see this book as a good ITIL resource, I don't think it really qualifies as a study guide. Yes, if you knew everything inside this book, you'll pass the exam, but as a student, I was expecting the book to help highlight important or exam-specific points. Unfortunately, I believe the focus is less on helping a user pass the exam and more on cramming everything the author knows about ITIL Foundation 2011 into a book. The book suffers from being overly organized (too structured), but it does cover all the basics, provides plenty of examples (mostly with telecommunication services), and does well to explain a topic with several varying definitions to ensure understanding. The author attempts to provide a narrative throughout, but he tends to get repetitive and boring, and punctuates every topic with a ton of bullet points. On pp. 116-117, there are 28 bullets covering 2/3rds of the pages, which is pretty typical throughout. What is the purpose of all those bullets? Are we supposed to memorize them? Will they show up on the exam? Why are they necessary?Keep in mind, we are buying the book to study for an exam, NOT necessarily to learn everything there is to know about ITIL. Just give us what we need to know for the exam. Highlight areas that you feel are more important, give us the basics (definitions, diagrams, and processes), and examples we will need to understand the concepts, but don't fill our heads with a ton of useless (non-exam-related) information like those bullets. If you decide to include everything, at least help differentiate which is which (exam-related vs informational).Through the first eight chapters, there were only five pages that indicated that the reader should pay special attention to the next paragraph, since it will be on the exam. That's it. FIVE helpful notations in 226 pages. (pp. 54, 71, 96, 102, and 181). Chapter 9 was entirely focused on the exam, but proved to be worthless. It gave basic information (# of questions, amount of time, passing score needed for each type of exam), but it didn't stress what we should be studying or getting from each topic area. The other half of Chapter 9 just gave the same basic tips that a person would need to pass any exam, such as answer easy questions first and come back to harder questions, eliminate known wrong answers to narrow your options down to one or two options, and watch the questions for the NOT statement.Overall, fairly easy read and a good resource for ITIL, but the author didn't help me figure out what I need to know to study for the ITIL exam other than everything under the "syllabus" of ITIL Foundation. The author did provide 5-10 quiz questions (55 total) at the back of each chapter, but he did NOT provide the actual answers to those chapter quizzes!!!! He did provide a few links to Axelos and such for sample exams that you could find via a google search. I had hoped the author would provide his own sample exams. The chapter structure got a little dry and repetitive. For example, most chapters started off with Objective, Scope, and Value, but the author doesn't tell me if these are for information purposes or if I will need to know these for the exam. Same throughout.NOTE: I have not seen any of the other ITIL study guides, so I do not know if this book is better or worse than those. I just know that I picked this book based on its recent publication date, which I had hoped meant that it might have access to newer exam questions that have progressed over the years. I had also hoped it would have more sample exam questions in general. It did not.

This book teaches you what you need to know, but it's not set up like a standard text book. The author speaks in first person and tells anecdotes that help you understand the points he is trying to make. The "7 days" title made me think it would be organized into Day 1, Day 2, and so on, but it is not. So you have to come up with your own pace of reading. I personally read it in 8 days and re-read a lot of portions the morning of the exam. I passed, but only by a few questions. I think learning the material more slowly and taking a few more days or even another week would have gotten me a higher score, but at the end of the day, the book did what it said it would.Another reviewer said this book suffers from being too structured and overly organized...It's a fair criticism, but the book is true to it's subject matter. ITIL itself very structured and organized...that's practically the whole point of it.
