For anyone interested in making furniture that has a period look or some period type details, this book is an indispensable asset. Shows how to make many of the wonderful artistic details that make this furniture so beautiful. This is not a beginner's book but would help even a fairly new to furniture building woodworker even if their focus was more on boxes and small case work than larger furniture. Written with much detail, nice pictures and multiple ways in several cases of completing the tasks.
I am surprised at the low book review. This is one of the best teaching books I have read. Lonnie Bird is an artist at conveying woodworking concepts. This is not a step by step how to guide to a completed project. Every detail that is covered is very well covered. I have both of the Lonnie Bird books and believe they complement each other. I highly reccomend this book and this author! If you want a good step by step book on Period Furniture try: Glen Huey's "Building Period Furniture" Both of these books are excellent. See my review under this book on Amazon.I have bought many books that are barely worth taking home. These two books are worth more than they cost! The printing and pictures in This book are superior as are all others I have read by Taunton press.
Probably one of the least useful books on either furniture making or period furniture I have ever seen. Not a traditional approach...all power tools....
Sorry, I got two. this on is descent but the furniture and Cabinet was the one I thought was excellent! Wish they still printed these! If you are starting outy ou can't have a better set. I have been into woodworking for years but still like these
